Software Engineer resume example
Hiring teams read a software engineer resume for shipped work, the size of the systems you touched and the tools you used. Lead with impact, then list the stack.
Skills to list
- TypeScript
- Python
- Go
- SQL
- REST and GraphQL APIs
- Docker
- CI/CD
- AWS or GCP
- System design
- Code review
List only the skills you have. Use the same words as the job post so applicant tracking systems can match them.
Example bullet points
- Cut p95 API latency from 480 ms to 190 ms by adding a read-through cache and fixing two N+1 queries.
- Built a background job system that processes 2M events a day with retries and a dead-letter queue.
- Moved the checkout service from a monolith to its own deployable, with zero downtime during the cutover.
- Wrote the test harness that took CI from 28 minutes to 9 and removed 40 flaky tests.
- Mentored three junior engineers; two were promoted within 18 months.
These are sample lines. Replace the numbers and tools with your own. Never claim a result you did not deliver.
Tips
- Put numbers on every bullet you can: latency, volume, cost, time saved.
- Name the stack in the job's own words so an ATS matches it.
- Link one or two projects with real code or a live demo.
